Edwalls Ur is one of Örebro's oldest companies and can almost be seen as an ancient institution. In 1862, the company was founded by P.A. Åberg - watchmaker and the person who, among other things, installed Örebro's first telephones. Åberg ran the company until 1918 when Gunilla Edwall's grandfather took over the business. For three generations, the Edwall family has run Edwalls Ur and Gunilla has already started to ensure that the tradition is carried on. Her niece Karolina is already involved in running the business.
In addition to Gunilla and Karolina, Gunilla's brother Mårten is still with the company, but at the age of 76 he is now part-time. He was once a watchmaker's specialist in Rolex, having trained with the prestigious brand in Switzerland in the 1980s. For 25 years, Edwalls Ur were authorized by Rolex and people came from all over the world to buy the fabled timepieces. Although the authorization is no longer active after Rolex switched to working with fewer authorized watchmakers, the knowledge remains and Edwalls Ur still receives Rolex watches for repair. It is precisely the repair of wristwatches, wall clocks and other automatic and mechanical movements that the real watchmaking craft remains, according to Gunilla.
"Today, everyone can buy watches online, but if you buy a watch online you don't know if it has been serviced properly. Edwalls Ur and other watchmakers play an important role in the craft. We take pride in our craftsmanship and always give a one-year guarantee on our repairs to ensure customers are happy and feel welcome back. This is probably a big reason why we have so many returning customers who always say they are glad we are here."
How has Froda helped you?
"We came into contact with Froda through a partner when we needed to refurbish, renovate the premises and install better grilles. Security is important as a watchmaker so it was something we needed to do and Froda solved all the problems at once. After that, we also borrowed to pay off an overdraft from a major bank. It was expensive and simply cost too much for us, while we didn't need it either."

Why did you choose Froda?
"Initially it was because we got the best offer from Froda but it was also so simple and easy. We sent off a request and then the solution was there and we got help immediately. When you've been fighting banks for as many years as we have, Froda was wonderful. Incredibly much easier to use and redeeming to get the help we got directly. Moreover, the last time we turned to Froda we got the money right away. It is really amazing and something out of the ordinary. You really feel that Froda trusts you and that we can trust Froda. It's a win-win situation and definitely one of the best choices we made."
What does the future hold for Edwalls Ur?
"Even though I recently turned 70, I still enjoy working with this and hope to continue for many years to come. But it feels good to know that Karolina will continue the tradition of Edwalls Ur as the fourth generation watchmaker. I am convinced that it will go well once my brother and I hand over fully."
The venerable family business will therefore live on as the institution it is, and the people of Örebro can continue to visit Edwalls Ur for their watch needs for many years to come.
