Långshyttans Brukshotell has been an integral part of the community since 1856. For many, the hotel is more than just a place to stay—it is a piece of living history and an important social meeting place. Today, the business is run by Carl and his wife, who together manage and develop the historic hotel in the heart of Dalarna.
"This is a classic industrial hotel from the mid-19th century, with an incredible industrial history just around the corner. The building itself holds so many stories, and we take that responsibility very seriously," says Carl. The ambition is clear: to preserve the soul and history of the building, while developing the hotel for the future.
At Långshyttans Brukshotell, everything from the food to the experience is steeped in local culture. The ingredients come from the surrounding area, the animals are purchased whole, and Carl does some of the hunting himself. "We want to know where everything comes from. It's about quality, respect for the ingredients, and creating something genuine for our guests."
However, running a hotel is far from romantic. Carl describes a daily routine where practical work takes center stage. "There is a misconception that hotel owners just walk around looking good all day. In reality, it's about making sure that everything works—that the building is in good condition, that the details are in place, and that guests are greeted by a well-run and safe hotel."
With over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, Carl has learned the importance of taking a long-term view. "If you just live day to day, you'll survive, but you won't develop anything. Running a hotel with this history requires a long-term commitment and a clear plan." Part of that plan has been to invest in the property, including extensive renovation of the upper floor.

Financing has played an important role in the company's development. "For a company of our size, it is crucial to have access to a flexible and responsive financing partner. This is important both for investments that develop the business and for managing seasonal variations and cash flow. You don't always need to use it, but you need to know that the option is there."
The goal for the future is clear: to continue developing Långshyttans Brukshotell while respecting its origins. “We want to refine, improve, and take the hotel to the next level—without losing what makes it unique. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re on our way. And we will get there.”
