Sami Kallio has built his name as a freelance furniture designer based in Gothenburg. With a passion for design and craftsmanship, he has gained particular attention for his innovative chairs, which he describes as his great love in furniture design.
“I focus mainly on chairs. It’s my calling, so to speak. I think the chair is such a complex piece of furniture – you can do so much with it. Some people ask why make another chair when there are so many already. I usually say that there’s always someone out there who hasn’t found the right love,” says Sami.
Halv Grek Plus Turk is one of our customers who, with support from the European Investment Fund (EIF), was able to secure a business loan with even better terms than usual. The program enables Froda to lend to small business owners to promote growth, equality, sustainable employment, and social inclusion in Europe. Read more about EIF here.
The path to success hasn’t been straightforward. Sami began his journey with an interest in building and creating. “The craftsmanship has always appealed to me. I started wondering: who actually designs the things I build? I wanted to do that too. I dreamed of designing and creating furniture professionally, and it’s a dream that has now come true. Taking an idea and seeing it become physical is fantastic.”
An important part of his journey has been finding the right space to develop his work. “I invested in a larger workspace, and it has given us exposure in a completely new way. It allows us to be more efficient and welcome more clients. That’s where Froda came in. I thought Froda was the best choice, especially with their flexibility. You can pause, raise or lower payments, and they provide a very clear overview of what you can borrow and what you owe. It’s both flexible and functional,” Sami explains.
Despite challenges, Sami is optimistic about the future. “The future looks very bright, both in terms of clients and for us. There’s a lot of work, and we haven’t felt the economic difficulties others might have. Instead, we’ve had even more to do. Both we and our clients are looking forward with positivity,” says Sami.
With his dedication to furniture and design, Sami Kallio has created a business where creativity and functionality meet, and where every chair is a new opportunity to find the right love.
